How much does an online store cost in Kazakhstan? The range is huge: from a free website-builder plan to projects worth several million tenge. The difference comes down not only to design quality but also to what the store can do: accept payments via Kaspi, sync stock levels with 1C, calculate delivery, work in two languages, and handle the load during sale season.

At Studio Nomad, we build online stores on our own code: our projects include the stores of AK ZHOL PHARM, Florex, MOTOEYE, Amanat Market, Astra Market, TERI SARAYI, and Hayward. In this article, we explain what makes up the price of a store, which features affect the budget the most, and how much it costs to run a store after launch.

Prices in brief

Online store development at Studio Nomad costs from 900,000 ₸. The typical range for our projects is from 900,000 to 2,000,000 ₸. Stores with complex logic, such as B2B pricing, multiple warehouses, or marketplace features, are quoted individually.

For comparison, there are three approaches on the Kazakhstan market, and each comes with its own price:

ApproachCostProsCons
Online store builderMonthly subscription; design and content are up to youQuick start, low barrier to entryLimited integrations with Kazakhstani services, dependence on the platform, hard to scale
Off-the-shelf CMS with a templateLicense plus customization, usually from several hundred thousand tengeLots of ready-made modulesTemplate-based design, customization for your processes quickly gets expensive, regular updates required

What goes into the cost of an online store

Analysis and design

We start with the technical specification: catalog structure, purchase scenarios, payment and delivery methods, and staff roles in the admin panel. Then we build prototypes and a custom design for desktop and mobile. Many shoppers choose and pay for products on their smartphones, so we design the mobile version as carefully as the desktop one.

Catalog and product pages

This is the heart of the store. The cost depends on the number of categories and attributes, filters, search with suggestions, product variants (size, color, volume), comparison, wishlists, and reviews. A catalog of a hundred products with simple filters and a catalog of tens of thousands of items with smart search are projects of different scope.

Cart and checkout

The cart, quick one-click ordering, promo codes, calculating the total including delivery, order statuses, and customer notifications. The simpler the checkout, the fewer abandoned carts, which is why we test this part against real purchase scenarios.

Online payments: Kaspi Pay, Halyk, and bank cards

In Kazakhstan, shoppers expect to be able to pay via Kaspi, so Kaspi Pay is an almost mandatory line item in the estimate. On top of that, stores usually add bank acquiring, such as Halyk, and card payments. Each payment method is a separate integration: a contract with the bank, configuration, and testing of refunds and statuses. These integrations run in our projects for AK ZHOL PHARM, Florex, MOTOEYE, and Amanat Market.

Integration with 1C, MoySklad, and Kaspi Marketplace

If products and stock are managed in an accounting system, the store should automatically pull prices and availability from it and send orders back. For example, the TERI SARAYI, Hayward, and Astra Market stores exchange data with 1C. Another common task is exporting products to Kaspi Marketplace so that the product range can be managed from one place. If your store is already up and running, you can order the integration separately: Kaspi and 1C integration costs from 150,000 ₸.

Delivery

Store pickup and local courier delivery are easy to set up. It gets more complex with pricing by zone and weight, integration with courier services, shipment tracking, and product availability in a specific city. At Astra Market, for example, the selected city affects the current availability of products in stock.

Customer account, loyalty points, and B2B

Order history, repeat orders, saved addresses, and a loyalty program. For wholesale customers: dedicated prices, deferred payment, and uploading orders from a file. B2B features noticeably increase the development scope, but for distributors they are exactly what saves managers the most time.

Languages and content

Russian and Kazakh versions of the store are a common requirement. Multilingual support is built into the architecture from the start, and translating thousands of product pages is best automated through import. Populating the catalog also costs money: you can upload products from a file or an accounting system, or order manual content entry with photo and description editing.

Admin panel

A convenient admin panel saves your staff time every day: processing orders, editing products, running promotions, managing banners, and exporting reports. We build the management system around the processes of a specific store instead of adjusting those processes to fit an off-the-shelf product.

What a basic store includes and what increases the budget

Included in the basic packageIncreases the cost
Custom design and mobile versionComplex animation, 3D, product configurators
Catalog with categories and filtersTens of thousands of products, smart search, comparison
Cart and checkoutLoyalty program, subscriptions, pre-orders
Online paymentsMultiple payment systems, installment plans for shoppers
Order and product management systemData exchange with 1C or MoySklad, export to Kaspi Marketplace
Basic SEO optimizationMultiple warehouses and cities, B2B account, marketplace features

Keep in mind that a “basic package” means different things to different contractors. When comparing proposals, compare not the totals but the lists of features and integrations included in those totals.

Three examples: what a store might cost for different needs

A brand store with a small product range

Several hundred products, a custom design, payment via Kaspi Pay and by card, local delivery and pickup, Russian and Kazakh versions. Inventory is kept in spreadsheets, with no accounting system integration. A project like this usually comes in close to the starting price — from 900,000 ₸.

A store with an accounting system and delivery across Kazakhstan

Several thousand products, stock levels and prices come from 1C or MoySklad, orders go back into the accounting system, delivery is calculated by city, and there is a customer account with loyalty points. The scope of work is larger, and the price moves toward the upper end of the typical range — closer to 2,000,000 ₸.

A B2B store or a multi-vendor platform

Wholesale prices for different customer groups, multiple warehouses, uploading orders from a file, supplier accounts. This is closer to a marketplace, and we quote such projects individually after analyzing the processes. One example is Prodiado, a B2B marketplace for dental products that brings together suppliers and professional buyers.

How not to overpay: what to look for in an estimate

  • Stages and scope of work. The estimate should show how much the design, catalog, payments, each integration, and content population cost, rather than a single turnkey figure.
  • Rights to the code and domain. Find out who owns the source code, the domain, and the server access after the project is handed over.
  • Integrations. Check whether Kaspi Pay, data exchange with the accounting system, and delivery are included in the price or will be charged later.
  • Warranty. How long it lasts, what it covers, and how much post-launch changes cost.
  • Admin panel. Ask to see how orders and products are handled in it: you will feel how convenient the panel is every day.

Phased launch: how to reduce your startup budget

You don't have to launch a store with all its features at once. A workable approach is to do it in two stages:

  1. Online catalog. A product catalog, product pages, and inquiries or orders without online payment. You can quickly start taking orders and collecting demand statistics.
  2. Full-featured store. Online payments, a customer account, delivery calculation, and integrations with the accounting system and courier services.

It's important that the first-stage architecture accounts for the second stage from the start — then expanding the store won't turn into rebuilding it.

Development timeline

A typical online store takes two to four months to develop. The timeline depends on the size of the catalog, the number of integrations, and how quickly approvals happen. Integrations usually take the most time: access to the accounting system, contracts with banks, and testing data exchange.

Work on the store proceeds in stages, and you approve each one:

  1. brief, competitor analysis, and technical specification;
  2. prototypes of key pages: home page, catalog, product page, cart, checkout;
  3. design of the desktop and mobile versions;
  4. front-end coding, programming, and the management system;
  5. payment, accounting system, and delivery integrations;
  6. catalog population and testing of purchase scenarios;
  7. launch, analytics setup, and training your staff to work in the admin panel.

This sequence helps keep the budget under control: changes are cheaper to make at the prototype stage than in finished code.

How much it costs to run an online store

After launch, you will have recurring expenses:

  • Hosting or server. A store needs a high-performance server: both sales and search rankings depend on loading speed.
  • Domain and SSL certificate — renewed annually.
  • Payment system fees — according to the terms of the bank or payment service.
  • Promotion. SEO at Studio Nomad costs from 100,000 ₸/month; the advertising budget is paid to the ad platforms separately.
  • Backups and security. Regular backups, library updates, and uptime monitoring. Without them, a store risks losing orders at the worst possible moment, such as in the middle of a sale.
  • Content and promotions. New products, banners, seasonal sales. If your own employee handles this through the admin panel, there are no extra costs; if you need a contractor, budget for a content manager.
  • Support and improvements. For stores we have built, the warranty and technical support are free for 24 months. New features are quoted separately.

How to pay for development in installments

For online stores, we offer a 9-month installment plan with a 10% first payment — no banks and no extra charges. Work is carried out under a contract, and payments are spread out according to a schedule. This is convenient if you need to keep part of the budget for purchasing inventory and for promotion after launch.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move my store from a website builder to my own platform?

Yes. We migrate products, categories, customers, and orders, and set up 301 redirects from the old URLs so you don't lose your search rankings.

Do I need an online store if I already sell on Kaspi?

A marketplace brings a flow of shoppers, but the platform sets the rules, the fees, and the storefront. Your own store is a channel that belongs to you: your own customer base, your own promotions, and your brand. Many sellers use both channels and connect them through an integration so they can manage their product range from one place.

Which should I choose: a catalog website or an online store?

If a product requires consultation, calculation, or individual pricing, a catalog that collects inquiries is enough — it is cheaper and faster to launch. If customers are ready to buy on their own without calling a manager, you need a full-featured store with online payment. A catalog can be turned into a store later if this is built into the architecture in advance.

How many products can I upload to the store?

There are no platform limits — the architecture and server are chosen to match the size of the catalog. For large catalogs, we set up automatic import from a file or an accounting system.
